Living Room Cleaning Tips to Keep Your Home Organized

Clean living roomMaid Brigade knows that in some ways, the living room is the most difficult room to tame, because it gets almost as much traffic as the kitchen. In addition to cleaning your living room’s floors and surfaces and taming the clutter, there are a few other areas in the living room that tend to get overlooked–your windows, walls and blinds. Now if you’re trying to think of strategies for how to clean your living room, you’ll want to include these key areas.

Blinds are something that get taken for granted, but they can also be a harbor for dust and grime. How often do you clean your blinds and how do you do it? Regularly dusting your blinds will decrease the need for the occasional overhaul. You should start with reading the manufacturer’s guide to ensure you follow the right steps to getting your blinds clean without damaging them. A general rule is that you can use a damp cloth to wipe your blinds down followed by a dry microfiber cloth to dry and release any extra dust.

If you live with someone who smokes or you have children, you understand that you have to clean your walls (sometimes often). If not, your walls may be one of the most overlooked areas in your home when it comes to cleaning. When it comes to cleaning solution, you can use vinegar and water (1/4 cup vinegar to 1-quart water dilution). Just apply the solution with a cloth and follow it with a dry cloth to remove. If you have pesky stains, you can try a baking soda paste (1/4 cup baking soda and 1 tablespoon water). Apply and scrub the paste with a clean cloth and then follow with a wet washcloth to wipe away the stain and the scrub. Before applying any solution to your walls and backsplashes, take the time to test your solutions to make sure they don’t stain or affect your walls in a negative way.

If you’ve spent a couple of hours cleaning, and then you sit down and look out a dirty window, it can dampen your mood. That’s why it’s important to include window cleaning in any living room cleaning regimen. The good news is, you can easily clean your windows and make your own green cleaning solution, so you don’t have to rely on toxic chemicals to clean your home. In a spray bottle, use a vinegar and soap solution (2 cups water, ¼ cup vinegar, ½ teaspoon of liquid soap) to treat your windows. Simply wipe away with a clean cloth and, voila! Clean windows!
