Feeling a little stressed?
Lessen your stress by stocking your cupboards with foods that help you relax.
Here are four foods to get you started:
- Dark Chocolate is a major de-stressor. It is high in flavonoids, which are plant compounds that are known for their relaxing effects. Chocolate with a cocoa content of 60% or higher contains very high flavanoid concentrations. Dark chocolate also contains phenethylamine, which is a natural mood-enhancing chemical.
- Sunflower Seeds are also a good source of folate. Folate promotes the de-stressing chemical called dopamine.
- Blueberries are very high in antioxidants. Not only do antioxidants fight cancer cells, they help counter the negative effects of stress hormones, like cortisol.
- Omega-3 foods have many health benefits. One of these benefits is that Omega-3 rich foods, such as salmon, flaxseed, trout, soybeans, and walnuts, suppress hormones and boost serotonin, the “feel-good” hormone.
