Here are some tips to help keep that fourth of July barbeque on the healthy side:
For meat lovers, choose a healthier meat, grass-fed if possible. Bison and Buffalo also tend to be leaner. Stay away from beef that came from cows injected with antibiotics or growth hormones.
85% lean chopped meats are high in saturated fat so choose ground turkey or beef that is between 93% to 99% lean.
For the fish lovers, wild Alaskan salmon is the way to go. It is high in Omega-3 and it is perfect for grilling.
Grill those vegetables! Eggplant, portabello mushrooms, peppers, onions and asparagus taste great right off the grill. Don’t forget to grill them in a grilling basket so the veggies don’t fall between the grill grates.
Corn on the cob is a summer favorite! Grill your corn for about 20 minutes in the husk so the corn doesn’t overcook or become dried out.
Avoid marinades and barbeque sauces made from high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, preservatives, additives, artificial colors or flavors.
Have a happy and safe fourth of July!
