Saying “I Love You” On A Budget

There are many ways to say “I love you” on Valentine’s Day without having to spend big bucks on dinner, flowers, and candy.

Here are some great ways to show your love for less money:

Give a gift of labor.  Do a chore, clean the house, wax the car…..and follow through with it.  Set the date:  I will fold the laundry for the next two weeks.

Instead of giving a bouquet of flowers, give potted plants, or plant flowers and shrubs as a reminder of Valentine’s Day.

Give a back rub or a massage.  Who doesn’t love a massage?

Put together your own gift basket full of things that your significant other likes, such as chocolate bars, licorice, magazines, bubble bath and candles.

Send cute messages via text or email all day long, or leave them notes all over the house and even in the car, telling them how much you love them.

Make your own card instead of buying one.

Dine and and bake their favorite dessert or cook their favorite meal.

Have a romantic popcorn and movie night.

Go out to breakfast or lunch instead of dinner.  Or, go out to dinner the next night when the restaurants are less crowded.

For the kids ~

For school-aged children, pack their favorite lunch, or make a special treat with a cute note telling them how special they are and leave it in their backpack.

For younger children, go on an indoor “heart hunt.”  Hide conversation hearts around the house and give the children clues as to where you hid them.

For the family ~

Spend quality time with your family by enjoying a relaxing dinner and a movie at home.

On small pieces of paper, have each family member write something he or she loves about every other family member.  Read them out loud.

For yourself ~

Do something nice for yourself….read a book, go to the gym, take a bath, get a facial….you deserve it!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

A good gift must be specific and as immediate as possible. You offer to detail his or her car? Set the date: I am going to detail your car this Saturday. I am going to walk your dog every morning for the next two weeks, starting today. I am going to wash your windows on Saturday, May 7. This makes the gift real and commits you to follow through.
