Why You Need ME Time – Quality ME Time

or....why a bubble bath is good for your health!

or….why a bubble bath is good for your health!

If you ever wondered whether there’s a correlation between well-being and “Me” time, Maid Brigade’s latest 2015 consumer survey answers with a definitive YES! Out of all the survey takers, with 85% of them being female, consumers gave themselves an average “C” for well-being. The low score is not surprising, considering the small amount of “me” time women allow ourselves: nearly half of those surveyed said they spent over 5 hours per week on chores, yet only 29% said they spent the same amount on “Me” time.

Almost half of respondents spent more than 5 hours per week on chores but less than 30% spent that time on themselves.

In looking at the survey results it also seems to me a correlation exists between well-being and how we spend our “Me” time. When it comes to leisure time, a full half of consumers choose to spend their time watching television while over half never relax in a hot tub. Over 40% spend their “me” time on social media and over 40% never mediate.

Study suggest quality, not just quantity, of "Me" time important for well-being.

At times, I am guilty of this too. There are days that I am so tired, all I can do is lie on the couch binge watching my shows. Don’t get me wrong, I do think of getting up and exercising, or going for a bike ride, or even taking a stress-less bubble bath, but I choose to not get off the couch!

Using some of our alone time to actually focus on ourselves can actually improve well-being!

It allows us to refresh physically, mentally, and emotionally, instead of always feeling “mentally drained.” Of course exercise, reading, naps and hobbies are great down-time activities, taking time to reflect – on ourselves, on our lives – is important for recharging too.

When we reflect we learn to better understand what makes us angry, disappointed, and happy. We gain a better sense of self.

This sense of self breeds confidence, which makes us do whatever we do better, breeding more confidence along with a greater sense of accomplishment.

With a greater appreciation for ourselves we can be more refreshed in our relationships, our jobs, our spiritual lives and our health regimens.

It is very important for women to get away from our hectic lives now and again. Spending time with ourselves – quality time – helps us grow, recharge, and refocus so we can enjoy being the best we can possibly be, because the time to ourselves actually makes us more productive and what we produce even better.

So we shouldn’t be afraid every now and then to delegate the home responsibilities to our spouses and kids in exchange for a few more minutes of “me” time. And, to call in the pros from Maid Brigade for really big jobs like holiday deep cleans!
