In a new study commissioned by Consumer Reports, bisphenol A (BPA) was found in almost all the canned food tested, including cans that said BPA-free. BPA is found in hard plastics such as polycarbonate baby bottles, sports bottles, dental bonding, and more. BPA is a known endocrine disruptor that is linked to breast cancer, heart disease, diabetes, developmental disorders, and more. Last year, the FDA declared the chemical to be safe for all use. But a few months later, a federal panel found that the agency erred in its assessment by considering only two studies, both of which were paid for by the American Chemistry Council, a lobby group for BPA-makers.
