Activies in the town of Montecute, in the southern UK, have extended the life expectancy of men by eight years compared to other towns in the country. In an analysis of more than three million pension records, researchers found that sixty-five-year-olds living in Montecute can expect an average of 25 more years of life, taking them up to 90, compared to 17 more years of life for 65-year-old men living elsewhere in Britain. The activity providing such a boost to longevity? Growing and eating their own fruits and vegetables. This activity did not have as much of a boost for the older women in the Montecute community.
