Are Pumpkins Eco-Friendly and Healthy?

Fresh pumpkins have become an essential part of autumn. Whether your picking pumpkins with the family, carving scary faces into pumpkins, or turning pumpkins into delicious fall desserts, one thing is for sure, the fall season comes with lots and lots of opportunities for pumpkins.

Pumpkins are not only nutritional and seasonal, but they also help to fight alongside disease-fighting nutrients, build up rich antioxidants and provide you with elements such as vitamin E, iron, magnesium, potassium and zinc.

Pumpkins are high In Beta-Carotene. Bright orange fruits (like pumpkins and carrots) are high in beta-carotene. Beta-carotene helps prevent night blindness, skin disorders and infections, and it also helps protect against toxins and cancer formation.

The skin and meat of pumpkins are very high in carotenoids, which help boost immunity and lessen the risk of heart disease. Not only do carotenoids neutralize free radicals (molecules that attack cell membranes and leave cells vulnerable), but they also protect our eyes against free radical damage that could lead to the formation of cataracts and degeneration of the eye tissues.

Fiber is important healthy digestion. Pumpkins act as an excellent force of fiber, with just one half of a cup serving containing five grams of fiber. Fiber also halps control blood sugar levels, protect the body against certain cancers and heart disease, and reduce the amount of bad cholesterol levels in our body.
