Household Products Database – Wellness Wire

Do you sometimes want or need to know what is in your household products? Your all-purpose cleaner? Your cat’s flea and tick collar? The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services has put together an online database of over 8,000 consumer brands and their health effects.  Derived from the Household Products Database of the National Library of Medicine, the database provides the Manufacturer Safety Data Sheets, brand-specific labels, and other public sources of information.

You’ll want to use the database if you have questions such as:

* What are the chemical ingredients and their percentage in specific brands?
* Which products contain specific chemical ingredients?
* Who manufactures a specific brand? How do I contact this manufacturer?
* What are the acute and chronic effects of chemical ingredients in a specific brand?
* What other information is available about chemicals in the toxicology-related databases of the National Library of Medicine?

Besides being able to browse by product name, type, and manufacturer, you can browse by chemical ingredient.
