Plastic Upsets the Stomach–Wellness Wire

The controversial plastic chemical bisphenol A (BPA) found in polycarbonate water bottles, baby bottles, the lining of cans and more, has been found to affect the functioning of the intestines, according to a landmark French study by the National Institute of Agronomic Research in Toulouse. In doses 10 percent less than the amount considered safe for humans, the research found that the chemical lowered the permeability of the intestines and the immune system’s response to digestive inflammation. Severe inflammation of the intestines could be a result for adults, after years of exposure.  BPA has also been linked to health problems such as breast cancer, obesity and the early onset of puberty, among other disorders.
