Yesterday’s blog spoke about pesticides and how the healthy fruits and vegetables that we eat can actually be loaded with different types of pesticides. Some fruits and vegetables that contain the most pesticides were discussed.
Now that you know what to avoid, here are examples of some of the cleanest produce:
Onions. An onions thick outer layer acts as a barrier from pesticides and protects the vegetable on the inside.
Corn. Corn husks are very strong. They help protect the kernels. Corn stalks are also very tall, which gives them some distance from the soil, where pesticides can seep.
Kiwi. Kiwi’s have fuzzy outer skin that protects the fleshy fruit as it grows, which creates an impermeable layer against pesticides.
Always remember to wash your fruits and vegetables thoroughly before eating them. Make your own natural disinfecting produce spray to clean all your fruits and veggies:
1 cup water
1 cup distilled white vinegar
1 tablespoon baking soda
1/2 of a lemon
Combine all ingredients in a large container. Transfer to a spray bottle with a pump. Spray mixture on produce and let sit for 5 minutes. Scrub and rinse.
