Ticks Like Global Warming — Wellness Wire

A new Yale University study reports that global warming is changing the way ticks feed, and where they live. Previously considered mostly a summer disease, the change in climate, especially in the Northeast with its more temperate climate, has extended the ticks feeding cycle, making it possible to contract tick borne illnesses such as Lyme’s disease, 12 months a year. This change is alarming scientists because people including doctors, may not think of a possible Lyme’s disease case in the middle of the winter, and someone who has contracted it at such a time may not be properly diagnosed, leading to potential and often devastating systemic Lyme’s. The other consequence of climate change is that ticks are finding comfortable habitat in ever widening areas, following in a way, the change in the USDA gardening zone changes, mentioned in a previous Wellness Wire.
